Within just a few months, AOE media developed an all-new intranet portal for one of the world´s leading tour operators Thomas Cook. The client wanted to provide employees with an attractive central point of contact for news relevant to the company, internal memos, current statistics, frequently used forms, employee offers and much more. Thomas Cook AG already had a Lotus-Notes-based intranet, which however no longer met its needs for modern inter-company communication.
AOE media’s job was to create intranets for Thomas Cook and Condor, using the same technology base. As a tour operator Thomas Cook has a very complex organisational structure, with staff departments, operative and strategic divisions, and other subsidiaries. The objective was to visualize the individual divisions and present the teams individually, including provision for updating of the various sites by over 50 editors.
After detailed strategic and conceptual discussions with the client, AOE media set up the intranet with TYPO3, the open source content management system that was also used for www.condor.com. AOE media developed an internal marketplace as a TYPO3 extension, where employees can post, administer and read classified ads.
AOE media succeeded in creating a visually appealing and lively intranet that meet the client’s need for technical sophistication as well as ease of use.
